Week One - Playing with asparagus and radishes

Asparagus has ALWAYS - and I really do mean ALWAYS - been one of my favorite vegetables. My mother loves to share stories of my childhood that really highlight my precocious nature as a kiddo. One of her favorites is about library story time. I was about five years old. For some reason, our story time group of discussing vegetables and Miss Kathy, our story time leader asked us all to volunteer our favorite vegetables. As all of the excited kiddos raised their hands and gave their answers, we all heard the predictable answers, corn, carrots, peas, potatoes, etc. So of course, me being me, I raised my hand and waited patiently to be called upon. "Asparagus!" Yep... I was that kid.

I learned so much about one of my favorites this year. I never understood how asparagus was grown or that its season is so relatively short! I did enjoy getting to experiment with different preparations of a long time favorite, and I particularly enjoyed adding asparagus to different meals. This cold salad - YUM.
